Rochester/Upstate Events
Laid off and looking for new full-time employment? Freelancing, and wondering where to find new clients? I’ve got a couple of suggestions.
1. Read Chris Brogan’s free e-book, Using the Social Web to Find Work. Chris is a marketing consultant who believes social networking is the future of marketing for individual freelancers, businesses, and nonprofit organizations. He gives proven, practical advice we can use to improve our career-related networking success rate. He is also entertaining, a quality that is missing in most job-hunting advice these days.
2. Attend Communication Central’s 4th Annual “Build Your Business” conference on Saturday, September 26. Internationally-known social marketing expert Neil Hare will be joined by Emily Carpenter, Steve Tylock, and Dick Margulis in a full-day exploration of the new Marketing 101 for freelancers and small business owners. STC members (as well as members of other professional organizations) will receive a substantial discount on the conference fees.
Disclaimer: Proof Sheet editor, Kat Nagel, is also a co-owner of Communication Central, the “Build Your Business” sponsor.
October 2008
Designed to promote economic development, civic engagement, community volunteerism and entrepreneurship, Eyes on the Future 2008 — an event sponsored by the Small Business Council of Rochester — features a panel discussion comprised of local, regional and national economic development officials and business professionals. The first Eyes on the Future offered outside perspectives on the region’s many assets and why it’s a great place to do business. This year’s event answers the question “Why Rochester?” from leaders and business professionals who are successful every day in our community.
The goal of Eyes on the Future 2008 is to motivate attendees with a sense of civic duty and regional pride to get directly involved in our community through the various efforts that are available and necessary to provide a successful path for economic and community success for everyone in the Greater Rochester Region.
Details of the 2008 program are available at this site:
