Adobe has published the Call for Entries for the 2009 Adobe Design Achievement Awards.  This competition is open to full-time college students (individuals or teams), and is accepting entries in 12 categories. Submission deadline is in June, 2009.

If you are a full-time student, the parent of a full-time student, or a college-level instructor, take a look at the categories and consider entering (or encouraging your students to enter) this competition. It is a great opportunity for demonstrating skill and creativity using any of Adobe’s print, online, or media design tools.

Twice a year, the Burton Group presents their Catalyst Conference. The July editions is in the US, and the October edition is in Europe. Although aimed primarily at IT staff, the last few conferences have had conference sessions and pre-conference workshops that are of interest to technical communicators.

The 2008 Catalyst/Europe conference has a session track that sounds especially interesting: New Ways to Work. It will cover all kinds of collaborative working environments, with an emphasis on the use of social networking software for companies and work groups. Other tracks include sessions on information and document management, new tools for creating and managing the user experience (user interface/online help/just-in-time training), and tools for enabling the mobile workforce.

While Prague is a bit far for most of us to go for a professional conference, there is a good chance that similar topics will be presented in San Diego in July.
